Piping may be used as a decorative edge to add visual interest. Piping adds depth and texture that can be inserted in a seam such as a neckline, front facing, hemline or collar and may be used in combination with bias binding, ribbon, braids or lace. Piping may be flat or corded—flat piping is often used as a transitional element whereas corded piping is usually used as an edge treatment.
