Louise Cutting - Professional Techniques special event
Louise Cutting of Cutting Lines Design will return to Waechter's this fall for two and a half days of non-stop learning. Louise will work her magic with Cutting Line Designs patterns to help you understand the importance of taking numerous body measurements accurately to obtain a well- fitted garment.
During the "hands-on" techniques part of the weekend, you will learn the professional way of sewing the details in different sections of a garment. You'll execute each technique and create a workbook of samples so that you will create beautiful garments while making efficient use of your time in your home studio. For example, create the best-looking collar band, sewn completely by machine...stitch a "cool" collar with foolproof corner edge stitching...setting in a high-capped sleeve with no gathering stitching....AND much more!
Discussions will take place throughout the weekend that will add to your sewing ambitions and fashion sense. Plus, Louise will work with you on your personal sewing questions along with helping you shop for coordinates to build your color wardrobe.

The Softly Tailored One-Layer Jacket
| A tailored jacket evokes images of a process that involves layers of interfacing and padding supported by hand stitches. The steps result in a structured garment that will hold up to years of wear. But what if you want the look without all the inner support? In this workshop with Mary Ray, Contributing Editor for Threads Magazine, you'll make a jacket or coat that shows off your fabric and is easy and comfortable to wear with no facings, interfacings, underlinings, or linings. You'll learn about alternative edge finishes, how to support closures, and how to add shape--if you want it. See Mary's Jacket Sample at Waechter's.
Mary Ray is Contributing Editor for Threads Magazine living in Banner Elk, NC. A nationally known designer and clothing maker, she is also an instructor in fashion design at Appalachian State. Mary loves to travel around the country teaching and lecturing about sewing garments creatively. "I have been sewing clothes, accessories, and projects for my home for most of my life. I love the process and I love working with wonderful fabric. I consider myself very lucky to have had the opportunity to learn and develop this skill and to discover that I can create something functional and beautiful with my own hands." |
