( August 7, 2010 ) I have been a committed user of linen toweling for many years and was devastated when the fabric store where I purchased all my linen toweling closed its doors after many decades of being in business. I looked in various retail stores and fabric stores to no avail. I Googled “linen” but couldn’t find this perfect toweling. In a last ditch effort I Googled “linen toweling” and was greeted by the miracle of Waechter’s. I received my order of toweling yesterday and not only did I find my 20 yards of this fabulous linen in the package, but I was delighted to find it wrapped in lovely bright blue tissue and ribbon. Then came another wonderful surprise of two beautiful buttons included in the package and a lovely note to thank me for my order. I am an experienced sewer of well over 50 years and have patronized numerous fabric stores through those years but I have never been gifted with such warm and gracious customer service. It is my turn to thank you so very much.

( May 25, 2010 ) Just wanted to say I just received my fabric, and this has to be the all-time best online fabric ordering experience EVER. Shipping at the speed of light, and the fabrics are beautiful! Being a swig dancer I make a lot of dresses from vintage patterns. I like using rayon because it wears well under the abuse I put it through and launders well (plus, it's period appropriate:-). It's been a *long* time since I've seen so many lovely rayons...and in vintage dress-appropriate patterns as well! And then the silk floral...well that will make a very special blouse:-)

beautifully packaged too. I searched far and wide on the internet last
weekend looking for just the right natural rayon for some sewing
projects I have planned and Waechter's turned out to be worth the time
and effort spent. It was an additional surprise to discover you sell
linen toweling since I'd actually given up looking last winter.
There are some other color/design rayons I'm interested in as well as

Just today my order for two patterns arrived in the mail. I must say, it was like getting a special present! My order was carefully wrapped like a gift package in turquoise tissue, and tied with a sweet white tulle bow. It made me feel special just to take it out of the mailing package! And then, there was a little gift tucked inside, of three mother of pearl darling buttons and best of all, a very gracious note from Elizabeth. Even though I ordered and paid for this package, the exceptional care taken in making it out of the ordinary and personal made it seem like a gift. ( July 25, 2008 ) I just wanted to comment on a recently received order. I am a long time garment sewer, and because the last independent fabric store in my area has gone crafty, I have to rely on buying my fabric online.
I ordered "Celtic illuminations", and although I waited too long to get my first color choice, the fabric I received is beautiful. Even my husband, who doesn't always share my taste, commented on the quality.
I'm a fairly new customer of yours, having only ordered a few times, but I have never been disappointed, as I so often am with other on-line fabric purchases. Also, living in a hot climate, I'm glad to have found a source for "real fabric", as opposed to the synthetics which seem to abound.

( July 4, 2008 ) I wanted to let you know that I finished the patchwork dress and pocket book this week. Thanks to your help, the dress turned out just perfect! Please tell whomever put the kit together that she did an excellent job. Especially, I appreciated the amount of cording. I had enough left over from doing the waist to add cording around the collar, cuffs, and pocket book flap. I thought this added touch made the outfit look more elegant. Also, I loved the buttons. I would never have selected those buttons; but they look great on the dress. Sewing with Liberty of London fabrics and silk dupionni is a combination that can't be beat. Since I live in Charlotte, NC, and am not in Asheville on a regular basis, it was nice to be able to order two more buttons for the navy silk noil blouse I was making.
I spent several hours browsing through your fabrics, patterns, and notions on the web and then being able to order via the internet. It was the next best thing to spending time browsing through the store. Thank you for making it possible for those of us at a distance to get a "fabric fix" through the internet and order needed fabrics, etc. if we can't get to the store. You truly have unique and interesting quality fabrics. When I spend my time sewing, my hobby for 65 years, I want to use top quality fabrics which are difficult for the home sewer to find.

Beautiful fabrics, buttons and many patterns from the independent pattern
companies. They also have many of their favorite patterns worked up in
lovely fabrics that decorate the walls and many worked up ready for you
to try on! They also have fabrics for nice children's clothes, smocking

my husband’s email address may be in the return address for this
email, he is not the one who gets on your website nearly every day to get
inspiration from your gallery.
I LOVE viewing all your garments and hearing your descriptions, fabric
suggestions, and stories about each garment.
I love the independent pattern companies and use those patterns for most
of my sewing. What often most inspires me is when I see what someone else
has done to a pattern I have used. I’m thinking in particular of
a garment that the seamstress/designer simply made the top sleeveless for
a whole new look. Now, why didn’t I think of that?!!!
Your fabric descriptions are good too. I expected wonderful things from
the Brussels Washer fabric but was still surprised at how nice it launders
and how well it fakes linen!!
Keep up the good work! I hope you add some more garments to your gallery
soon!!!

read with interest your very helpful article in Threads monthly tips received
in today's email. A copy is being forwarded to my 11-yr-old granddaughter
whom Santa brought a sewing machine!
The big thrill, however, was seeing Waechter's Silk Shop at the end
of the instructions. That shop is responsible in great part for my love
of sewing: I adored Mr Waechter and was quite friendly with his sons,
so much so that beginning when I was in grade school I frequently went
there on my way home from school, which was no where near my school or
my home! I loved chatting with the men, but I had to see and touch and
ask about all the fabrics, the budding of my romance with textiles that
continues today.
My older sister made many of my clothes, including my graduation dress
from St Genevieve's in 1951. Mr Waechter ordered a gorgeous Swiss organdy,
embroidered with white bunches of lilies-of-the-valley, one of my favorite
flowers, for the formal dress. It was so pretty.
Sometime when I'm back in Asheville I'll stop by. I've passed your shop,
but usually in the evening or on weekends, so I haven't been in to say "hello".
Thank you for carrying on the tradition and name of one of the best
fabric stores in the country. I wish you all the best -

in Asheville, and was looking for a place to buy some fabrics and patterns,
getting back into sewing. I came across your website, and the fact you
guys maintain a blog has sold me. I've driven by your storefront many times,
but hadn't even thought about stopping in. But, the fact you have a good
website and a blog, I'll soon be visiting.
Anyhow, just though you might like to know that your online efforts

wanted you to know how pleased and impressed I was to receive the pattern
I ordered from you so quickly. The fact that it was wrapped so nicely in
printed tissue paper was a very pleasant touch. I thought you must be a
