Brocades are a classic fabric made mostly in China. Brocades are a blend of silk and rayon. Brocades usually are high sheen with a lot of body. Most people use brocades for dressy garments. We love our brocades and love to change them with washing. Wash your brocade in warm water and dry it in the dryer and it will become less shiny and very soft. Make sure you allow for shrinkage with washing brocades as this fabric shrinks about 9 inches per yard. Check out the sample on our gallery, of Loes Hinse's Sweater Coat we made from washed brocade. I wear this brocade jacket with tweed pants and now it becomes a daywear fabric.
